September

Greetings again!

It's been so long. It really has. There are many words to describe these past few weeks. Yet also none at all. Everything is well. I go to class, I study, I write and volunteer and laugh with friends. I sleep and clean dishes and plan for the future and work at my summer internship once or twice a week. I like to think I've adjusted back to a college campus, to a small close-knit community and the college I spent two years at before going away yet I know too that I see things differently now that I've returned, and I feel large gaps and differences in the educational systems at both universities and academic systems. My classes are challenging and demand time, memorization and plenty of writing. I continue to gain though, and the time to learn is what I craved over the summer.

Autumn is coming, and despite a few humid days last week that reached ninety degrees, most days are colder here. The wind and the rain visits occasionally, and my drives south to my internship have begun to show foliage.

This past Wednesday on September 11, I interrupted my studying, left my residence (where I live with four other girls) and went for a walk in a nearby neighborhood. A warm breeze accompanied me throughout the walk and it felt so, so comfortable. I noticed the four military jets that flew overhead, the American flags at half-staff and then, once I returned to my schoolwork, the additional military jets that flew by. And I thought of these. That the western world has these while those in far more danger do not. And how they've protected a nation in the past twelve years. Which brought me to understand once again that in the western world, we are the have's, never knowing firsthand the danger lived daily by those in the developing world.

Last weekend I attended a few events in Burlington and nearby Shelburne, Vermont. Both counted towards an essay of analysis and social significance for my senior Journalism class, and I loved attending both events. Because they were for class and delicately scheduled around my internship work schedule -- which was busier than usual last weekend -- I attended the events on my own and didn't spend too much time at either. Images are below. :)

Shelburne Museum! One of my favorite museums, it's an outdoor museum with a focus devoted to Americana art with several nineteenth and twentieth century homesteads, barns, covered bridges and American art. Each time I'm there I think of summer vacation visits and the beautiful surroundings. I attended for an art exhibit that didn't allow photography, but before entering the exhibit, I revisited a few of the historic houses.
